Bourg man arrested for animal cruelty

A Bourg man was arrested Sunday for reportedly letting his pit bulls kill another dog he believed killed one of his roosters.

Reuben Billiot, 21, of 116 Teles St., was charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office records show.

A deputy was dispatched about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to Matherne Street and La. 24, where Alton Billiot told him his black Labrador had been missing for a few days, the arrest report says. Billiot, who is apparently no relation to Reuben Billiot, said some neighborhood children told him they’d seen his dog chasing roosters on Teles Street.

The children claimed Reuben Billiot had let his pit bulls kill the dog, then dumped the dog’s body along La. 24.

The deputy went to Teles Street and talked to Reuben Billiot, who reportedly said the Labrador had killed one of his roosters and injured another.

Billiot told the deputy he got angry and killed the dog by hitting it in the head with a stick, the police report says.

Billiot was arrested and booked on the cruelty charge. He was released from the Lafourche Parish jail Monday on $750 bond.
